Purpose in Life

Our culture says that we came from nothing (evolution), and that nothing will happen to us when we die.  Since many think we came from nothing, and that we are going nowhere, many are therefore tempted to seek a lifestyle that maximizes physical gratification, and many are not aware of the plan that Jesus Christ has for their life.

1.  Accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord

1)  God's Love and Holiness

God is Love (1 John 4:8 - 10).  He loves us, and He has an exciting purpose for our life (Jer. 29: 11 - 13, John 10:10).  However, God is also Holy, and He will bring judgment on all those who have broken His righteous laws, unless they repent.

2)  Man's Sin

All people have sinned, rebelling against God's laws by choosing to live according to their own selfish desires instead of living by God's commands.  The result of this lifestyle is eternal separation from God in hell, a place of never-ending torture.  (Rom. 3:23, Isa. 53:6)

3)  Christ's Perfect Sacrifice

But God made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins, and have a never-ending relationship with Him.  God sent His Son Jesus Christ to earth to live a perfect life, and to die the sacrifice for our sin.  Christ died on a cross in our place as the only perfect sacrifice that could satisfy God's wrath toward sin. (Rom. 5:8 - 9, 6:23)

4) Receiving God's Gift

God's offer to forgive our sins through Christ's death is a gift, but a gift has to be received to be effective (Eph. 2: 8 - 9).  To receive God's gift of forgiveness, I must believe that Jesus Christ died in my place, receiving God's punishment for my sin, and that God raised Him from the dead (Eph. 2: 8 - 9)

5) Savior and Lord

Since Jesus is both Savior and Lord (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)., I must accept Him as both my savior and my lord.  This involves repentance from those thoughts, words, and actions that are displeasing to the Lord Jesus, as we become aware of them

6) Confession Before Others

As a result of accepting that Christ died in my place to take my punishment for sin, believing that God raised Him from the dead, and acknowledging that He is now Lord of my life, I should confess these truths publicly (Rom. 10: 9 - 10, Matt. 10:32 - 33)

The result is that God completely forgives me of all my sins, declares me righteous before Him, and delivers me from the penalty and power of sin.  I am born again in my spirit and my name is written in the Book of Life.
